IMG 0099-1Coming off of a successful test earlier this month, Orbit Racing is set for the Grand-Am season opener at Daytona. The test helped shake down and sort the new 2012 Porsche 997 Grand Am Cup Car and  finalize the driver’s line-up. This year is the 50th Anniversary of the Rolex 24 at Daytona and Orbit is looking to add another Rolex 24 trophy to the shelf.

The "Roar Before the Rolex 24" test went well. There were a few teething issues that can be expected with a new car which were resolved. A lot of time was also spent sorting handling issues with the new Continental tires. During the three day test, the car was faster every session and not a single scratch on the car when it was loaded into the trailer.

"For the most part, the car is well prepared for the race. “states Orbit owner Rodger Hawley. We have been spending the time between the test and the race preparing spares, pit equipment and working on small details."

“Our  customers  and friends really pulled together  to make this happen,” Because of their support we have a strong driver lineup for the race,” stated Hawley.

Leading the lineup is the French driver Nicolas Armindo who won the German Carrera Cup and many other European races. Shane Lewis is the home town hero and has the most experience at Daytona with 14 starts in the Rolex 24 and it will be his 32nd start in a 24 hour race. Also driving is James Sofronas who co-founded Global Motorsports Group (GMG) which specializes in tuning and parts for European cars. James’ career highlights include victories across numerous racing events, series and championships. This will be his 3rd Rolex 24. Rounding out the driver’s line-up is Lance Willsey and Bret Curtis who both have prior Rolex 24 experience.

GMG and Positive Output are the primary sponsors but special thanks also needs to be extended to Autosupershield, M & M Exhaust, JustSync, Skidmarks, Exelixis, Western Beef and Spectra Resource Corporation.

The 50th Anniversary of the Rolex 24 at Daytona starts at 3:30 pm EST on January 28 and ends 3:30 pm EST on January 29. The live SPEED Channel coverage starts Saturday 2:30 PM ET and live timing and scoring is available on www.Grand-Am.com.
