Today our new Porsche 997 racecar arrived from Germany and this time we are going to try something a little different. What I mean is that we are going to share the experience via our website and Facebook.
We have had the great fortune to receive new racecars every year since Orbit began back in the year 2000. Rarely did I ever take pictures of the new cars and now as we are starting to restore some of our old racecars I wish I had. Now with digital cameras so easy to use and the availability of high quality video recorders we will do our best to bring you inside as we prepare for the 24 Hour race at Daytona on January 28-29. This is also a good reason for me to figure out how to use Facebook. The goal is to keep people informed about the the journey of chassis 076 and all the people behind the scences as we prepare for the 50th running of the 24 Hours of Daytona.
Thank you very much to everybody who has already decided to join us at Daytona this year, and for all you other Porsche people - you will never forget your first 24 Hour race, and this year will be the biggest Daytona has ever seen !

Shane Lewis: 24 Hours of Nurburgring Interview |
|
|
|
|
We sat down with Professional racecar driver Shane Lewis to talk about his experiences at the famous 24 hours of Nurburgring. He won the 6 hour race in 2009 and the 24 hour race in 2010. He has returned from Germany with a third place podium finish at this years around the clock endurance event.
Coming off last years win, was your third place finish a triumph or a disappointment? (Laughing) Man you get right to heart of things don’t you. Anytime you stand on the Podium at the Nurburgring it is special. But yes, I went back with the mindset of winning again. We all know that even finishing this race is an accomplishment. It really is, I am not just saying that. This track can eat cars and teams alive. But once you have tasted victory here, you want it more than anything you can imagine.

Shane Lewis heads home with a strong finish
NÜRBURGRING, GERMANY - June 26, 2011 The team of two German and two American drivers crossed the finish line third position in class. The largest of all the worlds 24 Hour races started 202 cars. Although we do not have all the details from the race this is what we know. The #73 Gotz Motorsport Audi RS-4 co-driven by Shane Lewis did not enjoy a trouble free 24 Hours, during the race it seems that there was at least one flat tire, a small mechanical issue, and some contact. We are looking forward to a one on one recap of the race with Shane that we will post on the website. Anybody want to go to this race next year??? Let me know and we will start making plans for a group trip - maybe somebody reading this would even like to compete as a driver next year - anything is possible! |

This summer we are starting our dream project. After many years of building race winning Porsches for the track, we have been given the opportunity to build a track inspired car for the street. The very top of the line for a 911 body is the RSR as currently raced at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. What if we could have a brand new 997 GT3RS and then buy all of the original factory parts to make a street legal RSR - Nobody would ever actually do this - Would they???
In our possession is a 2011 Porsche 997 GT3RS in aqua blue metallic. We will take you along as we go through the challenges of building an RSR for the street to Porsche showroom quality.
